State champion
The Maine Elks Association’s State Hoop Shoot free throw contest was held Jan. 26 at Brunswick High School.

Faith Sjoberg, representing Presque Isle Lodge #1954, was the winner in the 8-9 girls’ division. She made 20 out of 25 free throws, which tied her for first, and then hit four of five to take the tie-breaker. At left is Dwayne Guy, president of the Maine Elks Association, and at right is State Hoop Shoot Director Mark Inman. Sjoberg advanced to the New England Regionals, to be held in Gorham March 22. She is the daughter of Kevin and Susan Sjoberg of Presque Isle.
