At Saturday night’s Northern Star competition in Presque Isle, the audience chose Caribou’s Jay Nelson as one of its top two finalists to move on to the Feb. 23 finale in Caribou.
Nelson will be a member of “Team Mel,” and will work with Melbourne Smith, who served as one of the judges of the central Aroostook show. Smith then selected Megan Ouellette of Van Buren to be the other half of the team. Ouellette and Nelson will work with Smith on preparing a duet that they will sing at the finale. After singing together, audience members will vote for the contestant in each pair they felt was the strongest. The audience picks will then compete solo in the final round for the title of 2014 Northern Star. Pictured are, from left: Smith, Ouellette and Nelson..
