WASHBURN, Maine — With only seven out of Washburn’s approximately 1,700 residents attending, the town held its annual meeting Tuesday inside the high school gymnasium.
During this meeting, residents voted on articles in the annual warrant and received results from the election held earlier in the day.
Jeremiah McIntosh was elected as the moderator for the meeting.
All articles this year passed unanimously except for article 19, which focused on receiving grants for town improvements. The article originally stated that should a grant require matching funds from the town of $1,500 or more, then a special meeting must be held to approve those matching funds. The article was amended to state that if a grant required matching funds of $10,000 or more, a special meeting must be held, and the amendment was approved.
The 2022 expense budget for Washburn is $1,766,564, an increase of $144,887 compared to the 2021 budget of $1,621,677. All departments saw increases to the budget, except for other appropriations, which saw a decrease.
The anticipated 2022 revenue for Washburn is $3,354,153, an increase of $74,168 compared to the 2021 figure of $3,279,985.
During the election, 37 residents cast ballots. Keith Brown won the available council seat.
Eugene Brown, Chandler Cole and Beverly Thomas were all re-elected to three-year terms on the SAD 45 school board. Joshua Tate won as a write-in candidate for a one-year school board seat.
Steve Davis was re-elected to his seat on the Sewer and Water Department board.
