ASHLAND, Maine  — Ashland District School senior Mia Carney of Ashland was recently selected to receive the 2022 Principal’s Award, said Principal Joel Hall.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship

“Mia has truly made her mark at Ashland District School in terms of her school and community service, scholarship and leadership. Mia is an outstanding academic student with high goals and expectations for herself,” Hall said.

“Mia has always excelled while taking the most difficult classes ADS has to offer. Mia has participated in many other co-curricular clubs and athletics in order to stay a well-rounded student,” Hall said.

Carney is a member of the National Honor Society. She has also participated on the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams throughout her high school career. Mia was also named one of Ashland District School’s scholar-athletes. She has also served as the treasurer for the Class of 2022, and participates in modern band and instrumental band.

Carney is the daughter of Michelle and Ryan Carney of Ashland. She plans to attend the University of Maine and major in biochemistry.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
