Shire tennis squads notch season-opening wins

HOULTON, Maine – After several postponements to start the season, the Houlton boys and girls tennis teams finally took to the courts for their first action of the spring.

Hosting the combined team of  Stearns-Schenck Friday afternoon, the Shire boys and girls teams both picked up impressive 4-1 victories.

In the boys contest, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: In singles, Jadon Gentle defeated Gabe Whitehouse, 8-5; Caleb Solomon beat Derek Gagnon, 8-3; and Bradley Bean lost to Connor Kelley 3-8.

In doubles, Jackson Cullen and Gage Bartlett defeated Norrin Legasse and Dylan McDunnah, 8-5; and Jay Tweedie and Kohl Skehan beat Noah McNeal and Robert Cote, 8-5.

In the girls meet, the individual results, with Houlton players listed first, were: In singles, Sophie Lorom lost to Kylie Ingalls, 3-8; Natalie Delucca beat Abi Kelly, 8-4; and Hillary Peabody defeated Rayah Stanley, 8-2. 

In doubles, Hailey Quint and Mariah Peterson beat Sarah Jandreau and Marissa Cram, 8-1; and Olivia Cyr and Mimi Weston defeated Angelina Rollins and Janessa Fiske-Smith, 8-0.

In exhibition, Houlton’s Nick Hardy was victorious 6-1 and Riley Sylvain and Lucy Hebert were victorious 6-5. The Stearns-Schenck opponents were not reported for the exhibition matches.
