Due to the success of their February event, the Francis Malcolm Institute, located at 776 Houlton Rd. in Easton, is offering another moonlight hike on Saturday, March 15, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Snowshoes are available to rent for $2, otherwise there is no fee to attend this event. Hot chocolate will be available following the hike. For reservations or further information, call 488-5451.
•••••• Dodgeball Tournament
The first annual Dodgeball Tournament sponsored by Easton Project Graduation will be held on March 16 in the Easton Elementary School Gym starting at 11:30 a.m. The first 30 teams to register will be accepted; register no later than March 14. Registration material can be picked up or dropped off at Easton Jr/Sr High School. The cost is $40 per team; eight players maximum per team. Spectators welcomed for fun, food and prizes (donations accepted).
Fiesta Family Reading Night
Easton Elementary School and the EPCO will host a Family Fiesta Reading Night Extravaganza on Thursday, March 13. The events will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. Families will travel to three fiesta locations to read, visit the book fair and enjoy some chips and salsa! There will be guest readers, door prizes and candy-filled Pinatas! The class with the most participation at the fiesta will get the piñata filled with the most candy!
Cookie booths
Girl Scout Troop 691 will be holding their annual cookie booth at two locations on Saturday, March 15. The Daisies will be at Country Farms Market from 9-11 a.m., while the Brownies and Cadettes will be at the One Stop on Station Road from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The girls will have all nine flavors of cookies including the new gluten-free Chocolate Chip Shortbread! Those, along with Thanks-a-Lots, Shortbread, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Lemonades, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, and Cranberry Citrus Crisps, will be on hand for cash-and-carry at both locations. Come support your local Girl Scout troop and get your favorite cookies before they are gone for another year!
Happy Days update
The Easton senior Happy Days Club met Thursday, Feb. 27, with a potluck dinner. There were 12 members and two guests attending. Their guests were from Aroostook Agency on Aging. Diana Nadeau and Alberta Gough spoke on the new health insurance laws and programs and the help available to seniors when making application. They were very informative.
The meeting was opened by President Nina Trask with a salute to the flag and the singing of “My Country Tis of Thee,” accompanied by Liana DeMerchant on piano. Roll call was by Liana DeMerchant. Preesent were: Nina and John Trask, Ida Doak, Ezalee Smith, Marie Hewitt, Arlene Ladner, Paul and Liana DeMerchant, Irene Dufont, Betty Brown, Annette Copeland, and Pat Coffin.
The next meeting will be Thursday, March 13. They will be having a Chinese dinner. All Easton seniors are invited to attend the club meeting and bring a friend for delicious dinners and interesting afternoons.
Relay for Life event
There will be an open house held at the Odd Fellows Hall (23 Station Road) in Easton on Saturday, March 22, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. All orders placed will benefit this fundraiser. They will be featuring the “Awareness” necklace; a supportive reminder of love, decorated with cut crystals and a message of Hope, and other lia sophia items. Please support this worthy cause.
Science Center auction
The Aroostook Auction Barn in Easton will host a benefit auction on Saturday, May 3, and will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Francis Malcolm Institute’s fund-raising campaign. Items are needed for the auction. They will accept most items (no clothing please) such as antiques, furniture, appliances, tools, toys, etc. Call 488-5451 or 540-5101 with any questions or to arrange a delivery/pick up of a donation.
EPCO update
The Easton Parent Community Organization will be holding a Scholastic Book Fair through March 14 and are in need of volunteers. Contact the elementary school or email epco@eastonschools.org for more information. The group is always collecting Boxtops for Education.

Wednesday, March 12 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Bigrock field trip departing from the elementary school at 3 p.m. Contact the Recreation Department to register and for more information. Bokwa class starting at 6 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
Thursday, March 13 — Happy Days meeting at 11:30 at the Manor. Snowshoeing at the Science Center after school until 4:15 p.m. The cost is $1.
Friday, March 14 — Junior Activities 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall. Seniors program with Aroostook Agency on Aging; the topic will be Nutrition Secrets: What you may not know about your food! Lunch will be served free of charge following the program. Class starts at 11 a.m. sharp. Little Bears’ cheerleading party after school until 4 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
Monday, March 17 — Adult Nutrition class at the Manor at 11 a.m. Cost is $3. “Gluten Free” after-school cooking program at the Hall until 4:15 p.m.; free.
Tuesday, March 18 — Adult excursion for a maple syrup breakfast in Florencville, N.B. This year we’ll be visiting Kenneth Maple Farms. It will include an all-you-can-eat breakfast (for lunch) including pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, coffee, juice and tea. Cost of $12.50 includes the meal and taxes. You must have either your passport/passport card or a driver’s license and birth certificate to cross the border. Departing from the Manor at 9:45 a.m. Open gym after school in the elementary school gym for grades one and up. Children should be picked up at 4 p.m.
