HODGDON, Maine — SAD 70 successfully made it to the end of another school year, despite all the many challenges COVID-19 presented.
The district also said goodbye to two staff members, but welcomed a couple of new ones during Monday evening’s regular monthly meeting of the SAD 70 school board.
Superintendent Stephen Fitzpatrick said while it was not always easy, the district managed to weather the storm of COVID-19 with relative ease.
“We have officially made it through the 175 mandatory student days relatively intact,” Fitzpatrick said. “It looks like it (COVID) is slowing down nationally to the point where they are talking about endemic rather than pandemic. All of our year-end activities were back relatively to normal.”
The board accepted the resignations of Brianna Caron, a school nurse aid for the district; and Danielle Fitzpatrick, Millpond Elementary School physical education teacher. The board also approved the hirings of Jennifer Harmon as a literacy teacher and Sara Deveau as a half-time classroom teacher.
Assistant Principal Lacey McQuarrie was also granted a two-year contract for the district.
Fitzpatrick said the district was also in good financial condition as the current school year comes to a close. The district should have funds from the current fiscal year remaining that will be rolled over into the undesignated fund balance.
