CHAPMAN – Linwood G. “Pete” Pendexter, 76, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at his residence. He was born Oct., 24, 1937, in West Chapman, the son of Lizzie P. Pendexter.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 through 1957. He married his wife, Joyce, in 1959. He worked at various jobs, including driving school bus for SAD 1, and retired from the State of Maine Department of Transportation in November of 1997 with 20 years of service. He was assistant scout leader of the Mapleton troop in the late 70’s and early 80’s earning Order of the Arrow rank and also “a best snoring award plaque” from the scouts.
Pete loved family, family gatherings of all sorts and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved receiving calls from his family and “messages” from his grandchildren. He attended the West Chapman Advent Christian Church – and just like the Hatfields and McCoys, he and his wife occupied the same seat each Sunday. Pastor Donald Morton said they were empty last Sunday and no one could replace him. Pete was a kind, patient and sweet spirited man. He loved God, and served Him quietly.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce A. (Page) Pendexter of Chapman; two sons and one daughter, Gary S. Pendexter and his friend, Judy of Mapleton, Pamela (Pendexter) McEachern of Chapman, and Keith G. Pendexter of Chapman; six grandchildren: Erika L. Lupton and her friend, Ryan, of Orange City, FL (daughter of Keith and Allison Cole); Ryan P. Pendexter serving in the U.S. Navy stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK, and Ashley Lia Pendexter and her friend, Loren, of Bangor (children of Gary and Lori A. Pendexter); Paige A. (McEachern) Wardwell and her husband, David Wardwell, of Scarborough, Sarah C. McEachern of Chapman, and Naomi L. McEachern (daughters of Pamela and Bruce McEachern); three great-grandchildren: Olivia Sage-Marie Pendexter, Ashton Morgan Lupton and Charlotte Ann Wardwell; and his brother, Robert O. Pendexter and his wife, Finuchi of Jacksonville, FL.
He was predeceased by his mother and grandparents, George O, and Sarah C. (Briggs) Pendexter, who were instrumental in his upbringing.
He will be sadly missed by many friends and family and a special cousin, Calvin and his wife, Joyce. Calvin lovingly called “Pete” his brother.
