LIMESTONE, Maine – The Limestone Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting Fourth of July celebrations, with one week packed with family activities, concerts, the annual parade and a slew of new events.
The week kicks off Monday, June 27, with a new meet-and-greet for newcomers to Limestone. Chamber officials will be at the Limestone-Caswell Historical Society from 4 to 6 p.m. to chat with and welcome people who have chosen Limestone as their home. Other new events will include Music at the Gazebo, June 30; a craft fair at Albert Michaud Park, July 2; and the Light Up the Night ATV Parade, July 3.
One new activity – the Chamber Spirit Giveaway – will feature 10 local businesses and organizations. People can get a game card signed at each business and turn in their cards by July 2 at 5 p.m. for a chance to win cash prizes. First-, second-, and third-place winners will receive $100, $75 and $50, respectively.
“It’s our incentive for people to visit these businesses and organizations,” said Michelle
Albert, president of the Limestone Chamber of Commerce, about the giveaway.
Fans of the more traditional Fourth of July events can look no further than the town’s annual parade and fireworks, Albert said.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on July 4, with floats lining up at Limestone Community School before heading down Main Street. This year’s float theme is “Freedom and Fireworks.”
“We’d like people to register before the parade because it helps us determine the line-up,” Albert said. “However, if they decide to take part at the last minute, you just need to show up that day and see one of our volunteers.”
For the second year, that parade will kick off with a rolling car show at 12:30 p.m. Anyone looking to participate should arrive at the St. Louis Catholic Church shortly before the start time.
The fireworks will occur at dusk over Trafton Lake on July 4. In the event of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled to that same time on July 5.
Limestone has held Fourth of July celebrations for over 50 years, Albert said. The all-volunteer events help bring family members, friends, newcomers and those with Limestone connections back together for a week that people of all ages can enjoy.
With this year’s celebration being the second one held after the 2020 COVID cancellation, community members are more excited than ever to kick off the festivities, Albert noted.
“We sent the schedule to everyone with a mailbox in Limestone and everyone in our Chamber email database. That has been well-received, especially from our newcomers,” Albert said. “People have told us that the schedule looks great and that they’re excited.”
