PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Atlantic Salmon for Northern Maine is an organization devoted to ensuring the survival and growth of the region’s salmon population. To do that, however, not only takes a healthy supply of fish eggs but the funds to purchase them as well.    “ASNM, a local nonprofit organization, has been fund-raising and purchasing eggs from the New Brunswick hatchery for over 25 years. In those years, an annual fund-raising project has helped continue the operations and maintenance of the Dug Brook Fish Hatchery in Sheridan. The hatchery, which is the largest nonprofit Atlantic Salmon hatchery in the world, is continuing to keep this magnificent fish’s existence in the almighty Aroostook by raising and releasing fish into the river,” said Gary Giggey, ASNM president.
Giggey said this year’s fund-raising project is already underway, with the $100 super raffle tickets now available.
The winners of this super raffle will be drawn at the ASNM’s annual dinner/banquet and auction, being held at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle on Saturday, April 5. “There will only be 250 of these raffle tickets sold, so get them now while you can,” said Giggey.
Individuals interested in purchasing the $100 super raffle tickets can call Giggey at 473-7672 or go to the Machias Savings Bank or the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle.
“Dinner tickets are $50 per ticket and are limited, so secure yours today to enjoy one of the most exciting nights of fund-raising in Maine,” Giggey said.
Anyone that would like to donate or volunteer time in the operations of the hatchery can contact Giggey by phone or write to: ASNM, PO Box 833, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
“ASNM would like to thank the community for its generous support in the past, making the Dug Brook Hatchery one of the most successful hatcheries in the world. We look forward to continuing to protect the Aroostook River for all that it is and offers,” said Giggey.
The event kicks off with hors d’oeuvres from 5-6:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. A live auction will follow dinner. Ticket price includes membership, raffle tickets and a key to a treasure box. Auction items include: salmon fishing trips, literature, fishing equipment, framed prints and more.
