PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Taking a cue from last year’s first July Jubilee, the Star City celebrated Independence Day with free events that brought hundreds to Riverside Park.
A fireworks display started things off Sunday night at dusk. The park was crammed with people of all ages for the colorful show.
Events on July 4th began with the annual lunch offered by Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954. Crowds gathered around the Riverside Park Pavilion as Elks members served up hot dogs, chips and watermelon.
Vintage and classic cars lined Riverside Drive, which was blocked off for the festivities. Car show organizers said there were 45 entries, a good number, but added there were more people around than usual.
The splash pad was busy with youngsters playing in the water jets, and people strolled all around the park enjoying the festivities. At the gazebo, New Brunswick band The Good Ole Boys and Girls provided music as listeners gathered in their lawn chairs.
Rounding out the day was an evening concert at the park by local favorite band, the Star City Syndicate.
