To the editor:
Back in 2011 the average price of gas in Maine was $2.65 per gallon. At that same time the minimum wage was $7.25 per hour. Today the average price of gas in Maine is about $5 per gallon and the minimum wage is $12.75 per hour.
Let’s figure: 2022 gas price, $5 per gallon; 2011 gas price, $265 per gallon. Gas price difference, $2.45 per gallon. Next, 2022 minimum wage, $12.75 per hour; 2011 minimum wage, $7.25 per hour. Difference in wages, $5.50 per hour.
The increase in wages per hour will purchase one gallon of gas. If one travels 12 miles to work it would be 24 miles per day or one gallon of gas. The first hour one works the extra wages would pay for gas.
Yes, we have lots of other increases, yet we hear more from politicians about fuel prices being high. So suck it up like our vehicles do and go live the life. Pay the price.
