HOULTON, Maine – The First Baptist Church in Houlton is hosting a day of southern gospel music with Jason Runnels 10 a.m. Sunday, July 17.
Joining Runnels will be his son Braden. The concert is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
Runnels began a full time career in Christian music in 1998 when he joined Tony Gore and Majesty. While traveling with Tony Gore & Majesty, Runnels had the opportunity to sing in Ireland, Scotland, and London, England.
In 2000, he was nominated as one of the top 5 young artists in gospel music by the readers of Singing News Magazine. In 2001, he was a part of the No. 1 song in America, “Blessed Be the Name of the Lord.”
After five years with Tony Gore & Majesty, he joined the Down East Boys from Reidsville, North Carolina. While singing with this group, he had the chance to travel into Canada and annually to the west coast.
Runnels has written five top 20 songs and had several album cuts throughout his 20-year career. He has been blessed to have sung on every major gospel music event in the U.S., as well as singing on three Gaither Homecoming Videos and concerts.
After ministering full time for 15 years, Jason felt led to leave the road to be with his family. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Theresa, for 28 years and they have three sons, Trisdon, 23, Hunter, 21, and Braden, 19.
After leaving the road, the couple moved their family back to Mississippi where they were originally from. They are currently based out of Florence, Mississippi, but spend much of their time traveling the country in their RV.
In May of 2013, the couple launched Jason Runnels Ministries and in May of 2014 they took their family ministry full time. In April of 2018, Runnels was ordained to preach. He has been preaching revivals, homecoming services as well as speaking for different types of conferences. In August of 2019, Braden Runnels joined his dad and The Runnels was formed. Although Braden is in college, he travels as much as possible.
