CARIBOU, Maine — Lotus Speech & Wellness, LLC, a Maine telepractice serving neurological patients across the state, recently received a 2002 Speak Out! & Loud! Crowd Grant.
With the funds the practice will offer the Speak Out! speech therapy program to Maine Parkinson’s disease patients.
The award is part of the Parkinson Voice Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the voices of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease by making speech therapy accessible to them.
Lotus helps adults with neurological impairments such as Parkinson’s disease and acquired brain injury improve communication, cognition, and mind-body wellness through their speech-language pathology and yoga offerings.
“We are now able to offer the Speak Out! program to people with Parkinson’s throughout the state of Maine via telehealth, including Aroostook County,” said co-owner and speech-language pathologist Katherine Noyes.
This grant program honors the late Daniel R. Boone, Ph.D., a world-renowned speech-language pathologist who recognized in the 1950s that individuals with Parkinson’s could improve their communication by “speaking with intent.”
The Maine award is one of 439 given nationwide. Grant recipients include hospitals, universities, private practices, and other speech therapy clinics across the United States and abroad.
