CARIBOU, Maine — The 24th annual Aroostook County All-Star Basketball Classic was held March 10 at Caribou High School, with players representing 17 local schools. The annual event, featuring the top senior players in The County, serves as a fundraiser for the Aroostook League’s Scholar Athlete Scholarship Program.
In the girls’ game, Van Buren’s Parise Rossignol poured in 26 points as Team Pink held off the Blue team to post a 62-60 victory. Melissa Cantafio of Limestone-MSSM had 12 points and Nicole Giberson of Fort Fairfield scored six for the Pink team.
For the Blue squad, Lauren Doak of Fort Kent had 11 points and Nicole Olson of Washburn, with 10, led a balanced attack. Sable Altvater of Southern Aroostook and Carsyn Koch of Washburn each added eight points.
In the boys’ game that followed, the Red team rallied in the second half to pull out a 125-113 victory over the Blue team. The two teams combined for 33 three-point field goals in the contest, with the Red hitting for 18 and the Blue 15.
The Red unit placed seven players in double figures, led by Presque Isle teammates Bradley Shields and Cody Lyford with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Van Buren’s Jake Rioux had 17 and Houlton’s Nick Guiod contributed 16.
For the Blue team, Cody Herbert of Caribou had a game-high 25, with Hunter Turner of Easton close behind with 24. Derek Richardson of Caribou had 16 and Noah Bernard of Fort Fairfield added 15.
