As former County residents, our return visit was met with an unexpected surprise. We were invited to a guided tour of the Stockholm Museum, a town in which my wife was raised, where she spent much of her youth, harboring many happy memories.
Having traveled extensively nationally and internationally, one of our delights would be to visit national and local museums to learn of the history and culture of the area. After a tour of the Stockholm Museum one thing in particular impressed us aside from the numerous collections of artifacts in the two-story building.
This was not the usual or normal local museum that we have visited in many geographic areas. This is a museum “of the people” — their lives, their history, their sacrifices. For a small town, this was an incredible find. Complete family histories/archives are available for viewing. I suspect that this collection, in this regard, is the largest in the state for a local community. On another level is a room dedicated to the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed forces, complete with period dress and artifacts.
I would respectfully recommend that, as time and resources permit a news article be published noting this museum. I am quite sure that there are many in the public who would enjoy a visit to this fine museum. The second reason is to give the volunteers who spend many hours, without pay or praise, the recognition they deserve.
