Student named semifinalist
Joshua Kevin Peers, son of Edward and Melinda Peers, of Easton, has been notified he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2014 Maine State Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 26th year.
Bees were held in school with fourth- through eighth-grade students throughout the state to determine each school’s bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test. The National Geographic Society invited the student with the top 100 scores in each of the 50 states to compete at the state level.
The 2014 Maine State Geographic Bee will be held at the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday, April 4. Good luck, Josh, we are rooting for you!
Open house
An open house, coupled with a dedication service, was held on March 9 at the New Song Church on the Station Road to celebrate the opening of the church in the building and the dedication of the building to God’s glory and purposes.
In Easton style, many residents came out to see the renovations and to celebrate the arrival of a new church body in their community. As always, they were warm and friendly and shared stories of their life events there in the beautiful old church. As many as 125 to 150 people came through the doors to celebrate the occasion.
Lots of laughter and enjoyment of fellowship seemed to be the theme for everyone. Light refreshments were served.
Special guest speaker, Jim Gardner, shared some exciting facts about what good things are happening in Easton as he welcomed the New Song Church family. He shared how New Song Church as well as three other new businesses have come into the community just recently, indicating how the community is growing. As always, with Jim’s quick humor, folks enjoyed many laughs with him during his talk.
Pastor Granvill Lamb introduced himself and his wife, Janice, as co-pastors, sharing the work of God at New Song Church. He also gave a message about King David’s love for God’s house and how important it was to David that his son, Soloman, under God’s instruction, would build a beautiful temple in honor of God. David said, “God’s house is for God and not for man.” And in all that would be accomplished God would be given all the honor and glory.
Pastors Granvill and Janice would tell you that as a result of their journey together in establishing and planting a church, their faith has grown as God’s faithfulness has been abundant and that “with God, nothing is impossible for those who believe.” On behalf of the church, they wish to thank the community of Easton for their warm, loving welcome to the church family. Their desire is to be a blessing to this beautiful, warm community, as they have already been a blessing to them.
New Song Church has a children’s ministry that is in session during church time, as well as a “family room” for parents with babies who may need a “quiet” place for a bit that is fully equipped with speakers and a window to stay connected with all that is happening in church. Their weekly service is held each Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon, with lots of contemporary and hymn styles of music, teaching from God’s word, testimonies and more. All are welcome. You can reach the church by emailing newsongchurch@maine.rr.com or calling Granvill or Janice at 764-3229.
