AUGUSTA, Maine — Rep. Robert Saucier (D-Presque Isle) urges Maine residents to check the state database for unclaimed property.
“Last year, Mainers lost over $13 million in unclaimed property,” said Saucier. “These funds could be from forgotten checking accounts, unpaid wages, or contents of safe deposit boxes.”
Every year, the Office of the State Treasurer releases its annual list of unclaimed property, which consists of money and other personal assets that are considered lost or abandoned when an owner cannot be located.
“Take a moment to check and see if you are on the list,” Saucier said. “It’s worth the look.”
There is no fee to process an unclaimed property claim. Residents may go online to search for unclaimed property at www.maine.gov/treasurer/unclaimed_property.
