PRESQUE ISLE — There’s a new face at the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce office.
Lynette Frederick started her job as office assistant March 14. She replaces Nikita Cate, who has moved to Texas.
“It’s been fantastic so far,” Frederick said. “Being relatively new to the community, it’s a great way to meet people. I’m learning a lot about what businesses are here in the area, and what’s available in terms of events and services to the people who live here. This is a great way to find out what your community offers.”
A native of Auburn, N.Y., Frederick and her husband, Jon, were more recently living in southern New Hampshire. They moved to Aroostook County in June 2012 after he accepted the position of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill town manager.
“Since that time, I started as a substitute teacher for SAD 1,” said Frederick. “More recently I was working as an office manager for a local doctor’s office.
“I was looking for something different, and this opportunity presented itself; I thought it would be a good fit,” she said. “I had met Theresa Fowler [the chamber’s executive director] prior to interviewing for the job, and I thought it would be an enjoyable situation to work in.”
In her new position, Frederick, who works four days a week, is responsible for maintaining and updating the chamber’s website, serving membership, sending out information to prospective members, and working on the committees for the various events the chamber holds.
“I enjoy the variety of the job,” she said.
Frederick is presently involved with the Mapleton Daze committee, as well as the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative, where she sits on the scholarship committee.
In their spare time, the Fredericks, who live in Mapleton, enjoy cooking and playing with their two dogs.
