MARS HILL, Maine — Fort Kent took first place in the Aroostook County Championship at the Mars Hill Country Club on Friday, after being delayed one day due to rainy weather.
Seven schools swung away at the tee in hopes of capturing the coveted crown and included Central Aroostook, Hodgdon, Ashland, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Southern Aroostook and Easton.
Three squads — Fort Kent, Fort Fairfield and Central Aroostook — qualified to participate in the state championship.
Fort Kent took first place at the tournament with its score of 354, followed by Fort Fairfield with 357, and Central Aroostook had a score of 365. Ashland turned out 463, with Hodgdon trailing at 491.
Any schoolboy golfer who has shot a 90 or below also qualified for the State Individual Championship, slated for Saturday, Oct. 8 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.
Fort Fairfield’s Michael Bruce shot a 79 to earn first place and easily qualify. Cameron Deroier shot an 83, and Cayden Ala from Fort Fairfield and Kaden Theriault of Fort Kent shot an 87. Central Aroostook had Wyatt Allen shoot an 88 and Dayton Taylor shot an 89, and Fort Kent’s Sam Dufrense followed with an 89.
Others who shot a 90 were David Tuttle of Hodgdon and Central Aroostook’s Abram McCrum.
The individual scores for Fort Fairfield were: Graedon King, 92; Mason Mitchell, 104; Brett Senal and Blake Senal; 107; and George Solomon, 115.
The individual scores for Fort Kent were: Ian Beaulieu, 95; Tobias Naranja, 110; and Lance Gagnon, 117.
The individual scores for Central Aroostook were: Brighton Kingsbury, 98; Caden Bell, 114; Trace Kinney, 119; Colby Burlock, 122; and Cooper Mahan, 136.
The individual scores for Ashland were: Micah Calhoun, 105; Dakota Sutherland, 108; Ellie Calhoun, 115; Clyde Hafford, 135; Anabel Wadsworth, 152; Mason Pierce, 163; Benny Davis, 165; and Nahum Davies, 173.
The individual scores for Hodgdon were: Caleb Tuttle, 99; Joseph Griffin, 150; and George Gaddis, 152.
The individual scores for Southern Aroostook were: Connor Walker, 108; and Buddy Porter, 111.
The individual scores for Easton were: Jack McQuade, 98.
