MCPHERSON, Phoebe Jane (Grendell), 98, MAPLETON, at Mars Hill, April 4, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. June 14, 2014, at Mapleton United Methodist Church. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
MAPLETON – Phoebe Jane (Grendell) McPherson, 98, went home to be with our Lord, Friday evening, April 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. She was born on September 24, 1915, in Chapman, the daughter of the late Harry Delbert and Nettie (Cheney) Grendell.
Phoebe was a member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church, past member of the Mapleton Senior Citizens, Squa Pan Outing Club, and a member of the UMW of Mapleton Church.
Phoebe never met a soul she didn’t like, always had a positive attitude, was supportive to her family and had a kind word to say. She will be remembered for her wonderful donuts she made daily while employed at Mapleton Restaurant. In her later years, she crocheted and shared dozens of afghans and baby afghans with friends and family that will be treasured for years to come.
She is survived by her children, Vinal “Bing” McPherson and his wife, Louise of Presque Isle, Ina Hoffses and her husband, Gene of Castle Hill, and Elvin “Chick” McPherson and his wife, Laurie of Mapleton; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; plus several extended family members. She also was “Grammie” to several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Dana Grendell and wife, Jocelyn in Alaska; niece, Ruth Holmes and husband, Gerald of Houlton.
In addition to her parents, Phoebe was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Vinal “Buster” McPherson; a son, William Leroy and his wife, Ruby; four brothers, Samuel, William, Byron and Stanley Grendell; two sisters, Madeline Smith and Eveline Braley; and a daughter-in-law, Gloria McPherson.
Friends may call 12 noon, Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Mapleton United Methodist Church, 1755 Main St., Mapleton, where a Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., with Pastor Dot Matson officiating. Interment will follow the service at SouthSide Cemetery, Mapleton. A reception will follow interment at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phoebe’s memory to The Aroostook Health Center, 15 Highland Avenue, Mars Hill, ME 04758, who took wonderful care of our mother and grandmother in her last days.
