October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Cary Medical Center and Pines Health Services are teaming up to discuss the resources offered by both facilities, specifically catered to breast cancer. The Women’s Imaging Center, Pink Aroostook, and the Cary cancer support group at all provide compassionate and knowledgeable care for Aroostook County.
The primary focus in the Women’s Imaging Center is patient comfort, accuracy in imaging technology and privacy. Recently, Cary Medical Center installed a new state-of-the-art 3-D digital mammography machine that provides a better experience and more diagnostic information.
“Many women are intimidated by the mammogram process,” said Leslie Anderson, PT, MSB, Cary Chief Operating Officer. “We have invested in technology that makes the process more comfortable while delivering high quality imaging. Our specialty trained mammography team helps women navigate the screening and diagnostic process in an environment that promotes a relaxing and peaceful experience.”
The center provides a “spa” like private patient waiting area and individual changing rooms, with personal lockable armoires. The specialty trained mammography team, engages patients in a navigation process, helping women through their procedures whether a routine screening mammogram or a diagnostic exam, ensuring the patient has the best experience possible with support from her medical team.
For women that are diagnosed with breast cancer or other breast health concerns, the Pink Aroostook program can help. Pink Aroostook, a program of Cary Medical Center, is a breast health program designed for support, advocacy, education and awareness of breast health issues throughout Aroostook County. Pink Aroostook helps connect people diagnosed with breast cancer to local and national resources which may be able to provide financial and emotional support.
Pink Aroostook is bringing back the Luncheon of Hope for Breast Cancer Survivors on Thursday, Oct. 13th at the Caribou Motor Inn from 11am -2 pm. The event is free, as this is an opportunity for survivors to network and celebrate each other. Two local guest speakers will be featured. For those wanting to attend, please call (207) 498-1112 by Oct. 7 to RSVP.
