On Friday, March 28, the Easton FFA held a Career Fair at Easton Junior/Senior High School. The entire student body had the opportunity to visit eight different stations and hear about careers ranging from accounting to windmill energy production.
The 18 presenters — all Easton High School graduates and former FFA members — traveled from as far away as Tennessee to participate.
The eight stations were grouped by college major and career field: Agriculture related — Matt Blodgett and Andrew King; Business — Jeremy Corey and Ryan Lamoreau; Education — Luke Budreau, Harold Kierstead Jr. and Kelly O’Mara; Engineering related — Joe King and Colby Lamoreau; Law — Sean O’Mara and Kyle White; Logistics — Ricky Hull and Kevin Marquis; Medical — Simon Alexander, Kristen Boxwell and Michelle Osgood.
A baked potato bar lunch was provided featuring the new Easton variety of potato. After lunch the students all gathered in the gym for a chance to sign into FFA.org and complete a learning-style assessment and a career interest inventory.
Youth Choir to perform
The Northern Lights Youth Choir will be presenting “We Won’t Be Shaken,” a musical concert with drama on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. at the Easton High School. All are invited and welcome to attend. Admission is free, a love offering will be received to help the choir as they travel New England during their April school vacation.
News from Elmira College
Lisa Dayringer, of Easton, has been named to the Elmira College dean’s list for academic achievement for the fall 2013 term. Lisa is currently studying speech and hearing at the college in Elmira, N.Y.
Easton Seniors hear medical prescription plans
The Easton Senior Happy Days Club met Thursday, March 29, for a Chinese dinner. There were 18 members and one guest attending. Our guest was from the Aroostook Agency on Aging. Alberta Gough spoke on medical prescription programs and Medicare drug coverage plans. She was very informative and very much enjoyed by the members. There were many questions and participants appreciated all the details and explanations.
The meeting was opened by President Nina Trask with a salute to the flag and the singing of “My Country Tis of Thee,” accompanied by Leana DeMerchant on the piano. The next meeting will be Thursday, April 10. We will be having a breakfast brunch and everyone should wear their Easter bonnet for the 11:30 a.m. meal. Come celebrate the Easter season with them. All Easton seniors are invited to attend the club meetings and bring a friend for a delicious meal and interesting afternoon.
Science Center presentation
The Francis Malcolm Science Center will host the Mars Show on Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. Throughout 2014, a “red” star will begin to gain prominence in the night sky of northern Maine and western New Brunswick. Fascinating and ominous, Mars continues to attract our curiosity, commitment, and perhaps, destiny. Come learn more about this magnificent planetary neighbor, in a long-remembered planetarium spectacle. The cost is adults $3.50, students and seniors $1.50, members free. Fund-raising auction
The Aroostook Auction Barn in Easton will host a benefit auction on Saturday, May 3, and will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Francis Malcolm Institute’s fund-raising campaign. They will accept most items (no clothing please) such as antiques, furniture, appliances tools, toys, etc. Call 488-5451 or 540-5101 with any questions or to arrange a delivery/pick up of a donation.
Swim lessons starting soon
Children in kindergarten (and those 4 and older who are not in ECP) will have the opportunity to take swim lessons on Wednesdays from April 30 through June 4. We will leave directly after their 1 o’clock dismissal and return in time to ride the after-school buses home. If any parents are available to help chaperone, it would be greatly appreciated. Grades one and up will have lessons on Tuesdays from April 29 through June 3, departing directly after school and returning at 4:30 p.m. The cost for both groups is $19.50, please make checks payable to the Town of Easton. Must meet minimum number of participants to run both programs.
April vacation activities
Tuesday, April 22 — A morning of jumping, climbing and lots of fun at the Caribou Rec. There is no fee for the bounce houses and track use; we will go to Pizza Hut for lunch following the program. The bus will depart at 9:20 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for Pizza Hut buffet & drink for children 13 and under.
Wednesday, April 23 — Swimming at Limestone Rec for free. The bus departs at 9:30 a.m. and will return by 12:30 p.m.
Indoor soccer tournament at Caribou Rec for grades 6-8. Departure time TBA. Sign up is required by Friday, April 18.
Thursday, April 24 — Kickball tournament for grades 4-6 at Caribou Rec. The bus will depart at 8:15 a.m., pre-registration required! Free.
Braden to see a movie. The bus the departs at 12:30 p.m.; return time will be determined when movie is finalized. The cost is $5 for ticket, popcorn and soda.
Friday, April 20 — Dodge ball tournament at the Presque Isle Rec Department. This will be a fun morning of competitions. This is open to grades 3-8 only! Departure time TBA. Sign-up is required by Friday, April 18, in order to set up teams.
Trips will depart from/return to the hall. Be sure your child has appropriate clothing and money. Open to grades one and up, unless specified.
Travel news
Mark Smith and his wife, Carole, were home from Portland visiting his mother, Ezalee Smith. They were able to spend some time with family, including: Vance and Debbie Smith and Todd and Connie Bradley. They were also able to visit Craig Smith’s alpaca farm and watch the alpaca play in the snow.

Wednesday, April 9 — Junior Activities 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall. Field Days meeting at 3:30 p.m. at the Hall. Bokwa class starting at 6 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
Thursday, April 10 — Happy Days meeting at 11:30 a.m. in the Recreation Room at the Manor. ‘Come n’ play’ at the Hall from 2:45-4:15 p.m.
Friday, April 11 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Senior Game Day at the Manor at 11:15 a.m. Please bring a bag lunch.
Monday, April 14 — Adult Nutrition class at the Manor starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $3. “Gluten Free” after-school cooking program at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. Free.
Tuesday, April 15 — GaeDay after school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. Open to grades one and up.
Wednesday, April 16 — Junior Activities 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall for children ECP age and younger.
