Presque Isle woman wins Caribou Labor Day race

    CARIBOU – Fifty three runners competed in this year’s Caribou Labor Day Road Race, with P.J. Gorneault of Caribou seizing the early lead and cruising to the easy victory in this year’s eight-kilometer event held Sept 3.
   Gorneault’s time of 26 minutes and 12 seconds was 1:57 faster than runner-up Thomas Beckum, also of Caribou. Jeff Ashby of Fort Fairfield was third in 29:39.
    Alfred Hanscom of Limestone took fourth place in 30:22, with Leo Kashian of Caribou ending up fifth in 33:29. Carl Soderberg of Caribou was next in 33:40, with the women’s overall winner, Susan Plissey of Presque Isle, taking seventh overall with a 33:48 clocking.

    Bruce Freme of Caribou (34:08), Jeff Irving of Caribou (34:51) and Joe Ewings of Littleton (35:05) rounded out the overall top 10.
    The race served as the finale in the County Challenge Racing Series.
