Having a sale — J.C. McGrath is having a remarkable good sale on his Mic-Mac cigar — the leading 5-cent brand of the county. In one day last week he sold $500. He steadily employs a force of four hands, and it is hard work to keep up to the orders.
Connected now — O.L. Farnsworth had his law office over J.G. Garden’s grocery store connected with the telephone last week.
100 Years Ago – Nov. 16, 1922
A new invention — A slide projection machine of a new kind has been invented by Alsime Carrier, machine operator at Star Theater, Van Buren. The new machine automatically changes the slides every 10 seconds, so that the projection of the slides is continuous. The machine is run by a small electric motor. Mr. Carrier has applied for a patent on his invention.
In town on business — Mr. Porter of the Porter-Manzer Company of Perth, New Brunswick, was a business caller in town Monday. He is in the interest of securing potato warehouses for their wholesale potato business. They plan to operate this business quite extensively during the coming winter.
75 Years Ago – Nov. 13, 1947
Local auto dealer sees preview in New York — F.S. Tibbetts and Frederick Johnson returned last Thursday from New York, where they attended the preview of the new 1948 Hudson cars. The showing was held in the ballroom of the Hotel Astor. “Showing of the new model in Caribou is expected within a few weeks,” Mr. Tibbetts said on his return here. He added, “Many improvements and new developments are embodied in the new model, including a very low center of gravity. It is only five feet from the ground to its top.”
Christmas lighting out this year — Directors of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce last Thursday heard Walter F. Bishop, chairman of the merchants’ committee, report that downtown Christmas lighting will be out for this year due to lack of power, labor and materials. The matter of meters, favored by business firms for parking control, provided enough free parking space be made available, was referred back to E.J. Johnston, O.J. Bedard, N.J. Gagnon, Frank E. Pendleton and Newman B. Doyle. Further study by this committee, and conferences with town council and the police department, was deemed by the directors to be advisable.

Guard opens repair center — On Nov. 6 the Loring Center of Excellence held a grand opening ceremony. The facility will be under full-swing operation by Nov. 17. The LCE located at the former Loring Air Force base is a state operated military rebuild facility, managed by the Maine Army National Guard. The LCE secured two contracts for equipment rebuilds. The two contracts will employ the projected workforce for a year or a year and a half. One contract is for the conversion of surplus High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle ambulances into HMMWV troop carriers. The second contract deals with complete refurbishment of 5- ton trucks for the New Jersey Army National Guard.
Frontier Pharmacy hires DuBois — Frontier Pharmacy in Caribou announces the recent hiring of Phillip C. DuBois as general manager. DuBois has spent nine years in the home health care field in Aroostook County, seven of those in management. He will be responsible for developing Frontier’s new home health care program.
