TEMPO Employment Services, a leading employment agency serving Aroostook County businesses and job seekers since 1985, is pleased to announce that it has been certified to participate in the US Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business program.
The WOSB aims to create more growth opportunities for small businesses owned and operated by women and provides access to at least 5 percent of all annual federal contracting dollars to over 4,800 SBA-certified participants each year.
TEMPO Employment Services also received certification to participate in the SBA’s Historically Underutilized Business Zones program, which helps small businesses fuel growth in economically challenged regions by awarding a designated portion of federal contract funding for projects which stand to increase local job opportunities and workforce retention. At least 3 percent of all federal contact funds are reserved for HUBZone-certified businesses each year. The SBA declared Aroostook County to be a HUBZone-designated region in 2017.
Businesses that participate in the WOSB and HUBZone programs are uniquely positioned to bring new sources of revenue, income, and employment to their communities. Attainment of these certifications represents TEMPO’s commitment to building economic growth in Aroostook County and the surrounding areas. The federal government is the number one purchaser of goods and services in the United States; by tapping into the funds made available through these programs, TEMPO hopes to create exciting new opportunities for residents and businesses in Northern Maine for years to come.
