Chamber declares ‘Plaid Friday’

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce has announced a new plan to prioritize local businesses.

Plaid Friday is Nov. 25. While the idea may have originated in California, it has now spread to local towns across the country.

Plaid Friday precedes Small Business Saturday, meaning holiday shoppers can turn their post-Thanksgiving shopping excursions into 48 hours of opportunities to support locally owned businesses.

Nov. 26 is nationally known as Small Business Saturday. The shop small movement was spurred by the widespread participation in Small Business Saturday, a day founded in 2010 by American Express in the U.S. This national holiday shopping tradition is dedicated to celebrating small businesses and driving more customers through their doors on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Several independent businesses in central Aroostook County are ready to greet shoppers for Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday discounts and special deals to make shopping locally a pleasure.

“Shop, eat and wear plaid this weekend,” chamber officials said.
