BANGOR, Maine — Chandler Guerrette completed a stellar freshman season with the Husson University Eagles women’s basketball team, earning several post-season honors in the process.
The 2013 Presque Isle High School graduate, who was a Miss Maine Basketball finalist and helped the Wildcats to Class B state championships both her junior and senior seasons, led Husson in scoring at 12.6 points per game, field goals made with 114, assists with 75 and steals with 53.
She was named both North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year and Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Rookie of the Year.
She was named second team All-Conference, was selected to the NAC All-Tournament team and earned a spot on the MWBCA All-Rookie team.
“Chandler is very composed for a young player … she is excellent under pressure,” said her coach, Kissy Walker. “For a first-year player, she came in not only with offensive skills but she plays tough, smart defense too. Chandler has deceiving leaping ability and quickness.
“We are very happy that she is going to be wearing our green and gold for the next three years,” Walker added.
During the season, Guerrette was named NAC Rookie of the Week six times, MWBCA Rookie of the Week five times and New England Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (NEWBCA) Rookie of the Week on two occasions.
She started in 24 of the team’s 27 games and scored double figures 17 times, with a season-high 30 against UM-Farmington Feb. 19. She was a 73.5 percent foul shooter and was 27.1 percent from three-point range.
Husson had a 15-12 overall record during the campaign.
She is the daughter of Bruce and Sherri Guerrette of Mapleton.
