One of the funniest days of the holiday season is coming this weekend, when the Mapleton Daze Committee will host the second annual Holiday Shopping Event for Kids.
Kids are invited to come to the Mapleton Elementary School Cafeteria to shop for Christmas presents for their moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and other family members. The kids will be joined by the Mapleton Daze “elves” who will help them make their gift selections.
Items will be on display for the kids to choose from that range from 50 cents to under $5. Elves will be on hand to help the little ones shop and help them wrap their gifts at the wrapping station. They will assist the kids with free wrapping of the items when they are done shopping.
Shopping will start at 10 a.m. and end at noon. Parents will need to bring their kids to the Mapleton Elementary School Cafeteria entrance, as this will be the only school entrance used for this event.
The coordinators are anticipating some waiting time in lines before kids can begin their shopping. So while they wait, the elves will provide free activities for the kids. As a special feature, Santa Claus has agreed to come and take pictures with the kids.
The elves will also collect donated school supplies that will be given to the kids of Mapleton Elementary School. Organizers hope donors will fill the box to overflowing for the school kids. The box will be set up in the entry way to accept any donations.
The Mapleton Daze Committee hopes kids and families will join in this fun event. The crew needs lots of hands, so anyone interested in helping by being an elf for the day should Facebook message either Lynnelle Foster or Laurie Boucher. For high school students, this is a great and fun way to get some of their volunteer hours for graduation.

Stew Night a Success
The Mapleton Daze Committee was happy with their successful chicken stew night drive-thru. With a volunteer crew ladling bowls of stew into to-go cups, slicing and boxing apple crisp, taking and fulfilling orders, the stew flew steadily out the door.
The evening’s volunteers were Lynnelle Foster, Christina Kidney, Darcy McBay, Laurie Boucher, Jennifer Buzza, Maddie Buzza, Pam McEachern, Brystal Antworth and Kelly Lamoreau and her two sons, Jack and Tucker.

The committee was grateful for everyone who came out to support Mapleton Daze on that very cool evening. The hot bowl of stew and the delicious dessert was appreciated by many donors. The funds from the evening will go toward the 2023 Mapleton Daze celebration.
