Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on April 15 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Steve Farnham, executive director of the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. Steve has worked as an advocate to improve the quality of life for older people for 39 years at the local, state and national levels. A Presque Isle Rotarian, he was designated as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2003 and was recognized as Citizen of the Year in 2008 by the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce.
Steve spoke to the club about the aging demographic in Maine, and especially in Aroostook County, which is losing the most in population of all the Maine counties.
He said something must be done to stop this out-migration, but it will take a grassroots effort. We must find ways to keep our young people in the county — with new businesses and higher-education classes that train people for jobs that are available.
BINGO
The William Cousins Post 118 of the American Legion in Mars Hill hosts a Bingo Night every Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Legion building on Silver Street. There will be cash prizes and concessions.
