WASHBURN, Maine — The Washburn District High School winter sports awards night was held recently.
The evening began with Athletic Director Ron Ericson introducing the coaching staff, which included cheering coaches Heather and Mikayla Bragg, girls’ basketball coaches Diana Trams and Tammy Tatlock and boys’ basketball coach Michael Hartford. The other boys’ coach, Randy Norsworthy, was unable to attend due to illness.
Tatlock presented certificates to members of the JV girls’ basketball team. Receiving awards were Tori Koch, Rachel Driscoll, Mariah Davis, Kamryn Irving, Kristen Sarmiento, Mackenzie Vaughn, Brittany Corey, Liza Durette, Jessica Aube, Danielle Cyr, Kaitlyn Maynard and manager Tyra Shaw. Koch received the Rookie of the Year award, Rachel Driscoll was named the winner of the Coach’s Award and Brittany Corey was named Most Improved Player.
The Braggs presented the cheering awards. Receiving certificates and pins for the competition squad were Caitlyn Roix, Courtney Cannon, Tanya Tarbox, Kaylee Doody, Marienna Bragg, Tiffany Bragg and Mikayla Churchill. Receiving certificates for basketball game cheering were Roix, Cannon, Tarbox, Doody, Churchill, Marienna Bragg, Tiffany Bragg, Maryanne Helton, Shenae Burtt, Jacqueline McCarthy, Kelsey Farr, Tabitha McLaughlin, Elizabeth White, and Catelyn Coulombe.
Three-year letter awards went to Doody, Churchill, Burtt Marienna Bragg and Tiffany Bragg. Named the Most Versatile Cheerleader was Churchill, while the Most Improved Cheerleader was Tiffany Bragg. The Most Spirited Cheerleader award went to McCarthy.
Hartford presented awards to JV boys’ basketball team members. The team was recognized for compiling a perfect 16-0 record this season. Receiving certificates were Michael Ericson, Richard Stickney, Mitchell Cannon, Gary Hewitt, Justin Davis, Derek Baker, Brandon Cropley, Parker Thompson, Caleb Thompson, McCall Turner, Benton Plante, Cameron Hartford, Kevin Jordan, Keenan Jordan, Tyler Jardine, Bryce Roix and managers Mackenzie Hartford and Owen James. In lieu of special awards, coach Hartford presented each team member with a T-shirt in recognition of the fine season. Ericson presented coach Hartford with a plaque for himself and one for the trophy case.
On behalf of Norsworthy, Hartford presented awards to members of the boys’ varsity basketball team. Receiving certificates were Keagan Page, Cameron Preston, Kenny Irving, Cameron Bragg, Alex Pelletier, Noah Farley, Ericson, Jarrett Olson, Noah Caron, Cropley, Baker, Thompson, Turner, and scorekeeper Owen James.
Three-year letter awards went to Irving, Bragg, Preston and Ericson. Bragg was named the Most Valuable Player, Alex Pelletier received the Most Improved Player award and Ericson received the Coach’s Award. Bragg and Olson received All-Aroostook certificates.
Trams presented awards to the state champion girls’ varsity basketball team. Players received their banners and their backboard with team names for the gym wall. Team members receiving a State Championship plaque, their certificate and pin were Carsyn Koch, Nicole Olson, Carmen Bragg, Mackenzie Worcester, Joan Overman, Hannah Heald, Laina Mette, Emmy Churchill, Natalie Doody, Liza Durette, Tori Koch, Stacy Landry, Taylor Howe, and managers James, Rachel Rosssignol and Tyra Shaw.
Seniors Carsyn Koch, Olson, Bragg and assistant coach Tatlock received special team plaques recognizing them for being members of four consecutive state championship teams.
Receiving three-year letter plaques were Worcester, Overman, Landry, Heald and Rossignol. Receiving All-Aroostook certificates were Worcester, Bragg and Overman.
Bragg received a special achievement plaque for having reached the 1,000-point mark this season. Worcester received a plaque recognizing her as the Washburn girls’ all-time leading scorer. Churchill was named the Most Improved Player, Overman the Most Inspirational Player and Carsyn Koch the Outstanding Defensive Player. Olson received the Clutch Player award, Bragg was the Best All-Around Player and Worcester the Outstanding Playmaker.
Ericson presented Varsity Club letter jackets to Cannon and Marienna Bragg.
