HODGDON, Maine — A stellar second half lifted the Katahdin boys basketball team to a 51-16 victory over Hodgdon Monday afternoon.
A six-point lead at the halftime break (21-15) turned into a lopsided rout for Katahdin (3-3) in the second half as the Cougars held the host Hawks to just one point.
Grady Ritchie poured in 23 points to lead Katahdin offensively. Connor Edwards, Kyle McNally and Josh Martin each added six, while Samuel Boone and Calvin Richardson both had four and Jeff Martin added two.
“From our perspective, we could have done a lot better,” Katahdin coach Greg Bivighouse said. “There is always room for improvement. We are getting there. As long as we keep improving through the season, that is where we want to be.”
Hodgdon (3-4) entered the game without the services of its best player, Walker Oliver, who continues to recover from a leg injury. Things got worse for the Hawks as two more starters, Oisin Gardiner and Drew Duttweiler, were absent for most of the second half due to injuries and foul trouble.
Duttweiler finished with nine points for Hodgdon, while Gardiner added six and David Tuttle had one point.
