Pitch, Hit, Run baseball program
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition for boys and girls ages 7-14 (age determined as of July 17, 2014).
There are four different age categories divided as follows: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 year olds, with girls competing separate from boys.
The local contest will be held at the Fort Fairfield Middle High School baseball and softball fields on Wednesday, May 7 with the girls competing from 4:30-6 p.m. and boys from 6-7:30 p.m.
This national program provides boys and girls the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. Each participant will be scored on their accuracy to hit a strike zone from 45 feet for the boys and 35 feet for the girls (six pitches), on their speed running 160 feet from second base to home for the boys and 120 feet for the girls (one attempt) and their ability to hit the baseball (boys) or softball (girls) off a tee for distance (three attempts).
There is no charge to participate. The local winners in each age category in each event qualify to advance to the sectional championship being held in Mars Hill on Saturday, May 17 starting at noon. Winners at the sectional championship may have an opportunity to compete at the Northeast regional championship at Fenway Park later this summer.
