PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The SAD 1 board is asking residents to participate in a survey as it searches for a new superintendent.
Gehrig Johnson, who has been the superintendent for 30 years, will retire Dec. 31.
“The survey seeks public input on the qualities and attributes they desire in a new superintendent,” said Lucy Richard, board chair. “Respondents may download the survey if they go to the SAD 1 website — www.sad1.org — and click on ‘Superintendent Search’ in the top left hand corner. The survey can then be printed, and after completion, mailed to the board chair.”
Respondents will be asked to check the top four attributes or qualifications — from a list of 13 — they feel are of highest priority for the school board to consider for the new superintendent.
The list includes such categories as communication, community relations, curriculum, leadership, organizational management, personnel management, school/community involvement, school facility management, school finance/budgeting, school improvement, staff development, superintendent/board relations and supervision/evaluation.
There is also space at the bottom of the survey to write other comments; however, comments which identify any person(s) will not be considered.
The survey is open to anyone in the SAD 1 communities of Castle Hill, Chapman, Mapleton, Presque Isle and Westfield.
Surveys can be mailed to: MSAD 1 Superintendent Search, c/o Lucy Richard, MSAD 1 Board Chair, 22 Lombard Street, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Surveys must be received no later than May 28.
