PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Wildcat tennis teams picked up emphatic victories over Fort Kent in their lone matches of the week, played last Tuesday.
Both PI squads improved to 2-0 and will next make the trip to Fort Kent Thursday for a rematch against the Warriors.
Coach Monica Bearden’s Presque Isle girls recorded a 5-0 victory over the Warriors, who were playing their first countable match of the season.
In singles, Sara Gilson downed Kelsey Pelletier, 8-2; Hilary Boucher stopped Lauren Doak, 8-3; and Blair Bailey dominated Sam Dubay, 8-1.
For doubles, Michelle Cawley and Lora Ireland doubled up on Alexa Pelletier and Amelia Guimond, 8-4, while Sedona Lucas and Sarah Morneault eased past Brooke Jandreau and Rudy Martin, 8-1.
“The girls have surpassed my expectations because our preseason was so tough as we played inside for the majority of it,” Bearden said. “Fort Kent is always tough competition, but everyone played excellent.”
The PI boys came through with a 4-1 triumph.
Chris Carroll beat Lance Jandreau, 8-5, and Mike Michaud got by Tito Naranja, 8-2, as PI won those singles matches. In doubles play, the Wildcat duo of Byron Winslow and Andrew Dyer edged past Rowan Stamp and Kamran Hussein, 8-6, while PI’s Denny Young and Tyler Ayotte defeated David Roy and Charles Parham, 8-1.
The Wildcats’ lone loss came in first singles as Liam Hughes lost to Ryan Chasse in a match the was decided by a tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-4).
