The high school softball and baseball season continued with a few more games taking place last week.
In softball, the Fort Fairfield Tigers are off to a 3-0 start with opening wins over Madawaska, Washburn and Wisdom. Summaries of those games and others played since last Tuesday, April 29 are as follows:
Fort Fairfield 11, Wisdom 3 — Jordann Coiley scattered four hits to help the Tigers beat the Pioneers at Fort Fairfield Monday. Coiley had a triple to lead the Tigers’ nine-hit attack. Fort Fairfield broke open a close game by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and adding four more in the sixth.
Rhylee Wright doubled for the Pioneers of St. Agatha.
Central Aroostook 38, Madawaska 7 — At Mars Hill Monday, Karli Levesque drove in seven runs with a single, a double and a triple as the Panthers rolled. A 17-run first inning highlighted the victory.
Whitnie Bradbury added four singles and four RBIs while Megan King chipped in with a single, a double, a triple and five RBIs.
Alexis Levesque singled twice for the Owls.
Ashland Community 26, Central Aroostook 19 — On Friday in Mars Hill, Caitlinn Paradis, Marissa Chasse, Cassidy Pelletier, Rachel Gillis and Samantha Baker each had four hits to lead the Hornets by the Panthers.
Baker recorded five RBIs while Chasse and Paradis each drove in four runs. The score was tied at 11 before Ashland scored four times in the fourth and three more in the fifth to break out on top to stay.
Levesque sparked the Panthers with two singles, two triples and three RBIs.
Fort Fairfield 16, Washburn 11 — Friday at home, Fort Fairfield’s Logan Bubar and Autumn Parady recorded two singles apiece to lead the winning offense. The Tigers scored nine times in the bottom of the third and never looked back.
Nicole Olson and Liza Durette each had two singles to pace Washburn.
Limestone 22, Central Aroostook 9 — Last Wednesday at Mars Hill, Chelsey Pelkey led the offense with a triple, a double, a single and five RBIs to power the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics Eagles past the Panthers.
Annie Sinclair added two singles and drove in four runs while Jordyn Hopkins had three singles and two runs batted in.
Central Aroostook was led by Levesque’s two singles and two RBIs.
Fort Fairfield 15, Madawaska 5 — At Madawaska last Tuesday, Jordann Coiley recorded the pitching win for the Tigers and was supported by a double from her younger sister, Alexis Coiley.
Alexis Levesque doubled for the Owls.
On the baseball diamond, the Tigers picked up a pair of extra-innings victories, with Dalton Cassidy and Jon Bernard supplying the heroics with walk-off RBI hits. Washburn got off to a 2-0 start heading into its game against Ashland Tuesday following wins over Fort Fairfield and Hodgdon. Game summaries from last week are as follows:
Fort Kent 22, Central Aroostook 4 — Anthony Desjardins doubled and homered to help the Warriors capture their opener in the five-inning contest played Monday in Mars Hill.
Bryce Carter added a double for Fort Kent.
Cory Richardson, Dylan Fulton and Morgan Shaw each singled for the 0-3 Panthers.
Fort Fairfield 9, Wisdom 8 (8 innings) — In Fort Fairfield Monday, Cassidy knocked in Noah Bernard for the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out the victory over Wisdom.
Ryan Player got the pitching win in relief of starter Jon Bernard.
Fort was led offensively by Player, Carter Shaw and Cassidy with two singles apiece. For Wisdom, Nate Boynton and Chance Gervais had two singles each.
Ashland 14, Central Aroostook 3 — The Hornets broke the game open with a six-run rally in the third inning as they won at Mars Hill Friday for their first victory. Ashland took advantage of five Panther errors during the game and enjoyed a 9-1 advantage in the hit column in the five-inning contest.
Tyler Chasse of the Hornets pitched all five and struck out nine batters. Kyle Beaulieu and Michael Cook each doubled for the Hornets.
Alan Rideout singled for the CA’s only hit.
Washburn 8, Fort Fairfield 3 — At Fort Fairfield, Washburn scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie en route to the win over the Tigers.
Alex Pelletier pitched a complete game for the Beavers and also keyed the offense with two singles and two RBI. Parker Thompson added two singles.
Starting pitcher Carter Bruce ripped a triple and a double for the Tigers. Player notched a double and a single and Ryan Pelkey added two singles.
Fort Fairfield 6, Madawaska 5 (9 innings) — Jon Bernard drove in Shaw on a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to help notch the home victory for the Tigers last Tuesday. Michael McLellan came on in relief in the third inning and garnered the pitching victory in relief of starter Player.
Sam Cyr doubled and singled twice for the Owls.
Washburn 3, Hodgdon 2 — Last Tuesday at Hodgdon, Washburn came from behind after being shut out over the first five innings and edged past the Hawks.
McCall Turner doubled and scored a run for the Beavers and winning pitcher Keagan Page reached the base four times and scored a run.
Hodgdon’s Tyler Sherman had two singles to lead the host’s offense.
