Local members of Maine Agri-Women traveled recently to the American Agri-Woman midyear meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
Attending from The County were Sue McCrum, Maine Agri-Women president; Pam Townsend, immediate past president; and member Dayna McCrum.
The meeting’s focus was to review the current policies, adjust as needed and confirm the group’s 2023 position statements. Topics included agriculture business and economics, labor and immigration, homeland security and disaster relief, research and technology, global issues, trade, taxation, healthcare, commodities, food safety and nutrition, livestock and dairy, education, natural resources, and land use and property rights.
Speakers included Genevieve O’Sullivan, vice president of marketing for CropLife American, who shared media strategies, and Macie O’Shaughnessy, industry relations manager for Syngenta, who shared current research.
Those attending toured the RFD-TV studio where American Agri-Women president Heather Hampton Knodle and first vice president Rose Tryon VanCott were interviewed.
Maine Agri-Women will join other women in agriculture from throughout the U.S. in June in Washington, D.C., for the 37th annual American Agri-Women Fly-In to D.C. and the 28th annual symposium.
Members will meet with elected officials and policymakers to discuss critical issues, including environmental social and governance, trade and supply chain, land use, taxation, energy and mining, and the 2023 farm bill recommendations.
