A great kickoff

We are thrilled beyond words to announce that our Toast to the Animals fundraiser on April 29 was a smashing success.  The long-overdue event was held to kick off our capital campaign with all the proceeds designated for our building project for a new shelter.

We experienced a tremendous amount of community support for this event and raised just over $15,450 — wow. For just $15 at the door, guests had a fun-filled evening.  Again this year we offered the options of either a $500 “Top Dog” or “Fat Cat” sponsorship or a $100 sponsorship.  Please check out our ad in this week’s paper for a complete list thanking our sponsors. Without their support, this event just couldn’t be possible.

This year’s music was provided by O’Brien & Doug from Star City Syndicate. They did an outstanding job keeping the crowd entertained with many song favorites. The Northeastland Hotel did an amazing job providing a great variety of food selections, wine, beer, Maine sodas and many other special treats.

The silent auction featured 100-plus items, and brought in the lion’s share of the funds raised, as attendees bid high knowing the money was going to a worthy cause.  The night also featured many door prizes and a new raffle.  Gary Sanfacon was the lucky winner of our raffle of more than $120 worth of lottery tickets.

Much work and planning go into this fundraiser, and we are truly thankful to the Central Aroostook Humane Society board of directors, and especially the individuals and businesses who donated many wonderful items for our silent auction.  We had beautiful artwork, jewelry, gift baskets, weekend getaways, golfing and many certificates to area businesses, well over $8000 in total value.

Such kindness and generosity for the animals.

We hope that over the next six months our fundraising, grant writing and a large mailing going out to our supporters will help us to raise the necessary funds to see our new shelter become a reality. Stay tuned for occasional updates on our progress.

It goes without saying that we are all excited about finally having some positive signs of spring.  Your pets are no doubt excited as well.  To be able to enjoy some long walks and playful romps in the yard after a long winter is definitely something to celebrate. Be sure to get off the couch, turn the electronics off and get out and enjoy some fresh air and exercise with your furry pal.

Stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society or check out our Facebook page. Our hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, closing for lunch from 12 to 12:30.

Please be responsible: spay and neuter your pets.
