HOULTON, Maine — On Wednesday, May 3, the Houlton Lodge of Elks No. 835 hosted a recognition dinner for local National Honor Society students, families and advisers.
The dinner was held as part of Elks National Youth Week, during which Elks Lodges throughout the country honor the contributions and promising futures that young people provide our communities.
Approximately 200 students, parents, siblings and advisers from Houlton, Hodgdon, East Grand, Katahdin, Southern Aroostook, Greater Houlton Christian Academy and Region Two School of Applied Technology’s chapters of the National Honor Society enjoyed a complimentary meal of chicken cordon bleu and lasagna.
At the dinner, Houlton Elks Exalted Ruler Elizabeth Grant announced that Marissa Dow of Hodgdon had been awarded the Elks’ Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
Dow is one of six recipients of this distinguished award in Maine and one of only 500 nationwide. Dow will receive $1,000 per year for four years.
Also recognized was Jenna Brooks of Island Falls, Brooks received recognition for her entry in the Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Brooks will receive $1,000.
