By now, many of you have probably heard about the wonderful news concerning the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Just recently The Star Herald, along with the Bangor Daily News, broke the story on some very exciting happenings.
We have the land and we have the blueprints and we are ready to break ground this fall on a brand-new animal shelter. It will be located less than a quarter mile from the existing shelter, on the same street, across from the airport here in Presque Isle.
This has certainly been a dream for many of us over the years, but until we received several very generous monetary gifts that were willed to us specifically for a new shelter, we finally realized that this could become a reality. With the help and guidance of a local contractor, we feel that we have come up with an energy efficient, well-designed space especially for the needs of the employees and animals and most importantly a safe new building.
We will be kicking off this project with our popular fundraiser, the Toast to the Animals, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the Northeastland Hotel. The evening will feature a sampling of wine and beer, live entertainment, light refreshments, door prizes and tons of silent auction items that have been generously donated. Tickets are $15.00 at the door and all over 21 are welcome.
Similar to the past, we will be offering two levels of sponsorship to help us put on this event. Becoming a Friend to Animals Sponsor for $100 gives you two tickets and numerous recognitions. Becoming a Top Dog or Fat Cat sponsor for $500 gives you eight tickets, a reserved VIP table at the event with seating for eight and numerous recognitions.
If you are interested in being a sponsor, please call 207-551-6966 or send an email to gloriatowle@gmail.com. Sponsorship donation checks can be made payable to “CAHS.” Put Toast Sponsor in the remarks and mail to 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
We will be starting an important capital campaign for our new building very soon and would love to see the support of all the communities that we serve. All monetary donations for the building fund will be so very welcomed, no matter how big or small.
It’s sometimes hard to keep up on an exercise routine, especially when it’s cold outside and it becomes really easy to stay inside and be cozy. With hints of spring in the air, start thinking about the longer days and the snow melting… and just a hopefully brief “mud season.” Your pup will be happy to go for a walk and you will be surprised how good it will make you feel as well.
Stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society or check out our Facebook page. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closing for lunch from 12 to 12:30. Please remember to be responsible pet owners: spay and neuter.
Gloria J. Towle is the secretary and a member of the Central Aroostook Humane Society board of directors.
