FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — On Friday, June 9, the Fort Fairfield boys varsity baseball team won their preliminary game against Jonesport-Beals 12-2, but lost against Woodland 8-2 the following day.
Due to last week’s cold and rainy weather, the Class D playoff games were condensed into three days.
“We definitely made the routine plays in both games,” said John Ala, head coach for the Fort Fairfield baseball team.
During the contest with Jonesport-Beals, Zakary Gerhauser had two hits and four RBIs with Brett Senal batting two hits for the Fort Fairfield Tigers.
The players were excited with it being a young team this year, and to host a preliminary game and advance from there was a good step for Fort Fairfield’s baseball program, Ala said.
The day after beating Jonesport-Beals, the Tigers lost against Woodland during an away quarterfinal game with a final score of 8-2.
Greadon King had an RBI double with Blake Senal and Cayden Ala scoring the two runs for Fort Fairfield.
No errors were made during the Jonesport-Beals game, but one error on a ground ball occurred during the Woodland game, Ala said.
The Woodland Dragons took advantage after scoring three runs and then tacked on a run or two at a time throughout the game.
“We had 12 players and six of them were freshmen,” Ala said. “We graduate two seniors and bring in a good class of eighth-graders for next year and pick up where we left off.”
