HOULTON, Maine — Greater Houlton Christian Academy will hold its 26th annual Bike-a-thon on Saturday, May 20.
“Each year the bike-a-thon raises approximately $20,000. This past year exceeded our expectations, raising $31,000. We hope to do that again this year,” said Sarah Porter, Bike-a-thon co-chairperson.
“Now in its second decade, this fundraiser continues to be a critical part of GHCA’s annual fund which helps keep tuition affordable for all families who wish to attend the school,” said co-chairperson Erin Watson.
The bike-a-thon will include the popular 2-, 10- and 20-mile bike routes, a 5-mile walk/run and an obstacle course for Little Eagles and Pre-K students. The event will also include the GHCA Food Booth, which will be open on school grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members are invited to stop by for lunch.
“Our students are working hard to collect pledges,” said Mr. Foster, fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. “If you have been approached by a student and agreed to support them we thank you! We are grateful for the outpouring from the community that we continue to receive each year.”
Donors have been provided the option to pay their pledges online by visiting the Bike-a-thon page at www.ghca.com; or mail a check directly to the school. The school can provide a pledge payment form to fill out and mail with a check. The form can be obtained by emailing office@ghca.com.
To ensure everyone’s safety, GHCA asks all pet owners to leash or house their pets between 7 a.m. and noon along the bike-a-thon routes. Drivers should take extra caution during that time.
The courses will cover the following roads: White Settlement, Catalina, Hodgdon Mills, Walker Road, Porter Settlement, Bangor Road and County Road.
