HOULTON, Maine — Lieutenant Commander Zara-Anne Farrar, daughter of Steve and Bernadette Farrar, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval War College with an MA in defense and strategic studies.
She also holds an MS in international logistics management from Maine Maritime Academy. She commissioned in 2013 through Maine Maritime Academy’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program as a surface warfare officer.
Farrar’s first tour was aboard USS Gettysburg in Mayport, Florida, where she completed a nine-month deployment to the 5th Fleet AOR. Her second tour was with the Maritime Preposition Ship Squadron Three in Guam as the plans and material officer. For her shore tour, she was the training officer at Assault Craft Unit Four in Norfolk, Virginia.
In early 2019, she transferred to human resources. Her first tour was as a manpower analyst in the office of the chief of naval operations in Arlington, Virginia. During this tour, she earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification.
Her next tour will take her back to the Washington, D.C., area, where she will be stationed at the Pentagon in the Navy’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
Her personal awards include four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various other unit and campaign awards.
