Katarina Jenson, of Perham, is finishing an internship in Sen. Susan Collins’ Aroostook County Constituent Service Center, in Caribou, after having successfully served as an intern during the spring semester.
“Katarina’s hard work and enthusiasm during her time as an intern in my Aroostook County Constituent Service Center were greatly appreciated,” said Sen. Collins. “I am delighted to have had a student from Aroostook County assisting my staff in Caribou and serving my constituents across The County.”
Katarina graduated from high school in 2013 and is a rising sophomore at the University of Maine in Presque Isle and is currently majoring in liberal arts. She is striving to attain a career in music education. She is the daughter of Marvin and Melody Jenson.
Katarina says that she has greatly enjoyed her experience interning for Sen. Collins and is grateful she had the opportunity to do so.
Wolland graduates
Ross Madison Wolland, son of Dr. Michael Wolland and Bridget McIntosh, of Perham, graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.
He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 2007 and received his B.A. in philosophy and political science from the University of Maine in Orono in the spring of 2011. While at UMaine, he was vice president of the University of Maine student government. He was the recipient of the Margaret Chase Smith Public Affairs Scholarship and named the 2011 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Outstanding Graduating Senior.
As a student at Georgetown University, Ross was a member of the Georgetown Law Moot Court Team, ranking as a semi-finalist in the annual Beaudry Moot Court Competition. He worked in the D.C. Law Students in Court Clinic representing low-income D.C. residents against their landlords. He also served as a legal research and writing law fellow for first-year students.
Ross kept busy outside of the classroom. In 2008 he worked as an intern in Congressman Mike Michaud’s Bangor office. He was a summer associate in the law offices of Crowell & Moring LLP and Arnold & Porter LLP in Washington D.C. in 2012-13. In the fall of 2012, Ross was a legal intern in the Aviation and Admiralty Torts Division of the Department of Justice, also in Washington D.C.
Upon completion of his final year at Georgetown, Ross was chosen to receive the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award. This award recognizes outstanding individuals who have demonstrated superior advocacy skills, integrity and understanding of the law during their three years at Georgetown University.
Ross will be taking the Maine State Bar. Afterward, he will be working at the law firm of Arnold and Porter LLP in Washington, D.C.
August Festival
The August Festival Committee is busy planning for the 34th annual Washburn August Festival. The event dates of Aug. 15-17 are going to again be filled with many exciting and enjoyable festivities.
