Maine airports to receive awards
of over $4 million from FAA
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, and U.S. Sen. Angus King announced recently that several Maine airports have been awarded federal grants, totaling more than $4.7 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to be used for general improvements and safety enhancements.
“Maine’s large geographic area makes air travel an important transportation option that connects towns and cities across the state,” said Collins and King in a joint statement. “Maine’s small airports play a vital role in supporting local businesses, especially in the state’s more rural regions. This funding will help make necessary improvements and maintain a safe operational environment at our airports.”
Aroostook County airports making the list include:
• Caribou Municipal Airport will receive $150,000 to plan for future airport needs, and
• Northern Maine Regional Airport at Presque Isle will receive $300,000 to rehabilitate the runway, taxiway and apron.
