PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Veterans groups will march down Main Street in Presque Isle on Monday, May 29, to honor the fallen soldiers as part of the Memorial Day parade.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, with the parade lining up in the back parking lot at 9 a.m.
The parade line will walk down to Main Street and stop at the Second Street Bridge near Mike & Sons for a small ceremony to honor the Navy veterans. The parade will then proceed to the Veteran’s Memorial across from the Irish Setter Pub for a larger service to remember their fallen comrades for all branches of the military.

“It’s shaping up to be a pretty good parade and I just hope there are as many people that come out this [Memorial Day] parade as they do for the Holiday Light Parade,” said Randolph Michaud, quartermaster and adjutant of the Veterans of Foreign Wars located in Mapleton.
The Memorial Day parade is anticipating a good turnout with the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans participating in the parade line, Michaud said.
Prior to the parade, the veterans groups will meet at 9 a.m. at the Fairmont Cemetery to place flags at the memorial at the cemetery as part of a service to honor their fallen comrades.
“This is a parade for the fallen heroes and soldiers,” Michaud said.
Attendance for the parade has dwindled over the years, but Michaud hopes that the people in the community and around Aroostook County will come to Presque Isle’s Main Street to watch the Memorial Day parade.
If anyone wants to put a float in the parade they are more than welcome, Michaud said.
