PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Presque Isle Tech Center is pleased to announce Parker Sawyer as the Career & Technical Education Student of the Year for 2023. Parker is the son of Jeremiah and Amy Sawyer, bonus son of Timothy Stitham and a senior at Washburn District High School.
Parker is a third-year CTE student that has taken the AgriScience program and both Industrial & Farm Mechanics I and II programs. His instructors say it has been an absolute pleasure to witness him maturing from a quiet sophomore into a responsible adult. Parker has been active with PITC’s FFA organization during all three years. Parker has also earned his JMG Maine Career Exploration Badge.
Due to the uniqueness of Mr. Espling’s Industrial & Farm Mechanics program, Parker was able to find a passion for welding while earning concurrent enrollment college credits during his first year. In his second year, Parker gravitated to the mechanical aspects of the program. Because of Parker’s strong work ethic, he was chosen to be the first student to take part in the PITC’s newly established work experience program. Parker is now a student technician at United Ag & Turf where he is putting his skills to use.
Parker has been accepted into Northern Maine Community College’s welding program and intends to complete the diesel hydraulics program directly after. Following college, he aspires to attend the John Deere Tech Program to further his career at United Ag & Turf. Parker’s good nature and reliability will get him far in life.
