History revealed — A piece of local history was revealed last week in April of 1998, as Central Building Supply of Madawaska removed old siding from their Main St. location in preparation for a new covering. For a brief period of time, the name and date of the original builders were uncovered. As indicated by the lettering, the barn was built in 1937 by then-owner Luc R. Hebert and his sons Claude, Norman, Guy and Edgar. The boys painted each board by hand with Norman painting the lettering. The building was later handed down to Edgar Hebert who was to have started Hebert’s Hardware but, sadly, passed away three days before the grand opening. The building was then sold to Emile Chasse who then passed it on to his son-in-law Fred Wetmore.
