Dr. Cyr resigns — Dr. Paul Cyr announced his resignation from the SAD 24 school board this week in 1973. Cyr had two years remaining on his three-year term of office. According to the resignation Cyr will remain on the board until his successor is elected.
Other school director vacancies include those of Bertrand Dufour, Elmer Corbin, Lorna Parent Jr., Robert Leonard and Gerald Blier.
25 Years Ago — Feb. 18, 1998
Happy 100th — Albenie Cyr celebrated his 100th birthday at Highview Manor on Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, surrounded by staff and friends. Cyr enjoyed cake and some special musical entertainment. A former St. David potato farmer, Cyr enjoys music and dancing. He said there is no secret to longevity, but noted the youth of today are much smarter than he was at their age and will know more things. His family celebrated with Cyr at a special party later that week.

Father Nadeau returns to parish — The leader of the St. John Vianney Parish, which serves Catholics in the greater Fort Kent area, officially returned to the parish on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, when he celebrated Mass in Wallagrass. No formal public announcement was made about the return of the Rev. James Nadeau because “the Bishop wanted parishioners to receive the good news first,” Dave Guthro, the communications director for yjr Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, said in an email.
