St. John Valley weather for Aug. 2-8, 2023

3-Day Outlook: Wednesday, Aug. 2 – Friday, Aug. 4

High pressure remains across the Valley today with mostly sunny skies and mild conditions. Daytime highs reach the mid-70s with partly cloudy skies tonight and temperatures in the upper 40s.

High pressure moves east Thursday with southerly flow with increasing clouds overspreading the Saint John Valley as a frontal system approaches with a chance of scattered afternoon showers. Breezy south winds may gust into the 20-25 mph range at times. Cloudy skies with showers likely are expected Thursday night as a warm front lifts towards the region. Patchy fog will be possible in the overnight hours. Highs are expected in the mid-70s with overnight lows in the low 60s.

Friday,  an occluded front moves towards the region with showers likely along with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Breezy south winds with gusts around 20-25 mph are expected. Mostly cloudy skies remain across the region Friday night with showers likely and isolated thunderstorms possible as a triple point low associated with the system moves across the St. John Valley. Highs reach the low 70s with nighttime lows in the upper 50s.

Daily Summary

Today: Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. Light south wind.

Thursday: A chance of showers, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday Night: Showers likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 60. South wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 10 a.m. High near 71. South wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog. Low around 58. South wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.   

4- to 7-Day Outlook: Saturday, Aug 5 – Tuesday, Aug 8 

The occluded front crosses the region Saturday with mostly cloudy skies and showers likely, along as well as a chance for isolated afternoon thunderstorms, as the occluded front crosses the region. A chance of showers continues overnight as the front moves east. Clouds decrease as high pressure over the Great Lakes builds into the region overnight. Daytime highs are expected in the mid-70s with overnight lows in the mid-50s.

High pressure builds in with partly cloudy skies Sunday. Partly cloudy skies and dry conditions are expected overnight into Monday. Sunday’s high tops out in the mid-70s with nighttime temperatures in the mid-50s.

Partly cloudy skies start the day Monday with partly sunny skies and a chance for scattered showers developing in the afternoon as another frontal system approaches from the west/southwest. Clouds increase Monday night with a chance of showers developing as the front moves closer to the region. Highs Monday climb into the upper 70s/low 80s with lows in the upper 50s Monday night.

Mostly cloudy skies with a chance for showers in the morning then showers and isolated thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon as an occluded front approaches. Daytime highs reach the low 70s.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers. Patchy fog. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
